When there is little to gain from your life, you chance upon anything that brings solace with itself. Paul, returning after the end of WW II, is distraught on seeing that his wife has no love for him. He moves on in search of a job. Victoria, a Stanford graduate is an unmarried pregnant woman returning to her traditional parents' home, filled with fear. They meet en route and Paul agrees to pose himself as her husband.
