5th of a degree treads upon the treacherous terrains of the human mind, when it’s forced by tragic circumstances to give up all ideals and principles to attain justice. The movie gives us an insight into the mind of a criminal inspired by a positive cause, as opposed to the generalized perception of criminals working with evil intentions.
The protagonist of the movie, Manuel Delavida, witnesses an about-turn, when his father is murdered under mysterious circumstances. Being the patriarch of the Delavida family, he gives up all that he’s been teaching his children for years, and embarks upon the murky world of crime. The role of Manuel is portrayed by Carlos Guerrero, who instills the much-needed passion of vengeance into the role with magnificence, making it not only immensely believable, but also deeply moving. The death of his father, Enrique Delavida, turns his life around, making him give up his entire identity, while also putting his relationship at stake. Manuel’s family is torn apart, when the man who held them all together with his strength and idealism, turns his back on them, with just one word on his mind- revenge.
This intriguing tale of utter transformation inspires the viewer to think of a facet that lies undiscovered. It narrates the universal truth that behind each good person, there lies a bad side, that lies latent, which when provoked by a cause that’s strong enough, can come alive. When that very same side awakens with full strength, it exceeds most evil of the forces. As the movie unfolds, you’ll find yourself stuck in a dilemma of whether Manuel is right or wrong.
