Set in Germany, Alex and Leo is a movie about the gay relationship between Alex and Leo. Marcel Schlutt of Unfaithful fame plays Leo.
He is a porn star from Europe. Andre Schneider plays Alex, Leo’s love interest. Schneider also happens to have written the screenplay for the movie. Udo Lutz (debutante) plays their gay best friend. Leo, after snapping ties with his girlfriend becomes enlightened about the fact that he is gay. Alex, who is running in circles after his breakup with his cheating boyfriend, bumps into Leo and lo! Love at first sight happens! The plot unfolds in Berlin. The night life and the Berlin atmosphere is the proverbial fuel to the fire, as sparks fly between the two. Leo's girlfriend is quite illiterate when it comes to gay men. Well, what ensues is a cute romance amidst all the pandemonium.
The couple finds it hard to escape the piercing gazes in Berlin, which isn’t quite as liberal like most other European cities, when it comes to accepting gay men. Directed by Yuri Garate, this movie is not just another fantasy tale about a gay couple with a happy ending. The movie actually explores the psyche of gay men and those who come in contact with them.
Alex and Leo is a romantic comedy that unravels the intricacies of the cozy relationship between two men. Leo (Marcel Schlutt) is into advertising and is trying to cope up with a broken relationship with his girlfriend of four years. He realizes that he’s gay and gears up to tackle his sexual orientation. Alex (Andre Schneider) is also juggling with the quagmires of his life when he finds his boyfriend, rendering pleasure to another man.
As they say, love never loses hope; Leo and Alex meet at a bar and something deeper, other than friendship develops. Parallel to the principal storyline, runs the ancillary track of the love lives of Alex’s friends, Tobi (Udo Lutz) and Steffi (Sasca Hai). The plot, though predictable, is made alluring with brilliant acting from both the lead actors. Exemplary screenplay and the hard work put in to make a great movie are evident.
