Everyone on this planet wants to spend her life with her dream lover, but many a times, especially in Asian countries, one has to sacrifice these dreams at the altar of cultural rules and social norms.
Bicycle Bride is a movie based on the same subject. The plot of the movie revolves around a girl named Beena, who’s on the lookout for the boy of her dreams. She is a modern girl living in USA and is a non-believer in arranged marriages. The movie depicts her struggles in breaking free from the shackles of old beliefs and stereotypes surrounding arranged marriages. In doing so, she has to take a firm stand against her mother, who’s a typical Indian woman attached to her cultural roots, and who wants to keep them alive even when she is living in a foreign land. Beena also discusses the matter of marriage with her dentist friend. To rescue Beena, and to help her take the decisions in her life comes her best friend Mary Jane.
She tries to find the best match for her, but fails every time. The serious conflict between generations and the cultural differences have been presented in a comic tone by Dr. Hassan Zee. Bicycle Bride take the audience to the funny yet interesting journey of two women with contrasting point of views about life.
