Don McKay

Don McKay is the story of a man who takes an impulsive decision that changes his life forever. Don McKay (Thomas Haden Church) is a forty-something man, living an ordinary life far from his hometown, which he has left long behind.

A letter that suddenly arrives in his mailbox, one day, shocks him and forces him to transcend a journey that he had vowed never to take- the journey back home. The letter is from his old flame, Sonny (Elisabeth Shue), with whom he was in a relationship, years ago. Sonny tells him that she is suffering from a terminal illness and can die anytime. She expresses her desire to see him one last time, to which he readily concedes. As he steps back in his hometown, he has an air of discomfort as it is at this place that he buried a secret 25 years back, which he hopes never resurfaces. As he spends time with Sonny, he realizes that she is very different from the woman he fell in love with years ago. The people around Sonny- her doctor (James Rebhorn) and caretaker (Melissa Leo) do not seem to be especially impressed with Don. As he struggles hard to keep his shameful secret under wraps, it turns out that destiny has something else in store for him.
