Earthwork

Select some people randomly, and ask them what it takes to make a work of art? Canvass, paints and some brushes, would be the obvious answers. But, if one of them is Stan Herd, things like weed, soil, and rocks would be the answers to come up.

This tale is based on the true story of artist Stan Herd. Earthwork takes you back to the year 1994 and portrays Stan traveling to Manhattan’s Upper West Side on the invitation of business mogul, Donald Trump, to make an artwork on a piece of land. He took up the task of creating a work of art, like no other. The land near a railway tunnel becomes his canvas! He employs the nomadic people living in the area to work with him, as he sets himself to make a masterpiece. Eventually, he discovers the true depth of his art and the labor involved in it. The characters in the movie fit perfectly with the story. The movie captures the true essence of a maestro by keeping it close to reality.

The sensitivities and perplexities that an artist goes through while carving an artwork, are what form the crux of the story. Earthwork itself seems to be an artwork. Stan goes through a rigorous schedule to succeed in his attempt, as he realizes the truth about the outcomes and awards associated with any art. Earthwork, the movie has an engaging storyline, as the viewers feel compelled to applaud every stroke and move of Stan’s.
