Nick Porter (Will Ferrell) is faced with a man’s worst nightmare, which spins his complacent life out of control, all in a day.
It begins with he being kicked out of his office. It is followed by his wife walking out of his life, after ruthlessly changing the locks of their posh suburban house, and throwing out all his stuff out in the open. This leaves Nick with two options- he can either pick up all his belongings, rent a new place, look for a new job, and find a new wife. Or else, he can just sit there and hope for things to change by themselves. The laidback man with that devil-may-care attitude, he chooses the latter option. The only twist being that he doesn’t simply sit there, but rather frames a smart plan, that may be exactly what he needs, to turn the tables around. He puts up a yard sale and chooses the easiest yet, most lucrative avenue to mint money under his present circumstances.
As people begin to flow in, and he sees his haphazard plan actually working. Nick’s excitement knows no bounds, and he soon realizes that all that happened might actually be a blessing in disguise. What begins as a random idea ends up to a redemptive procedure for him, as he learns the much-needed lessons of life, dedication, and responsibility. With his past having automatically erased, Nick makes the most out of the new opportunity, and gives us a wonderful lesson in an enticing package that’s abound with laughter.
