Fly Away is directed by Janet Grillo, and stars Beth Broderick as Jeanne and Ashley Rickards as Mandy. Jeanne is a single mother, with a teenage daughter Mandy, who is afflicted with autism.
The single mother remains worried about nurturing Mandy, and she does whatever she can, to bring up her daughter well. When Mandy was a child, her mother used to overcome all the challenges imposed because of Mandy’s condition but as Mandy grows up, the problems develop and it becomes difficult for Jeanne to cope up with them. It would be interesting to watch Fly Away, in order to see the struggle and love of Jeanne, for her daughter.
While the tale is inherently poignant, there are dashes of humor as well, because the mother starts to realize that what used to work with Mandy, no longer works, as she grows up. Catch the movie to enjoy the bittersweet moments between a mother and her daughter, as they strive to prepare to face the world, with all the trials, tribulations, victories and curve balls that it has to throw at them.
