John Carpenter's The Ward

A girl named Kristen is admitted in to a mental asylum after she burns down a farmhouse. Declared mentally unstable, she is sent to a psychiatric ward.

During the very first day of her incarceration in a creepy-looking hospital, Kristen starts hearing strange noises and seeing some weird images in the hallway. When she wakes up the following day, she finds herself covered with bruises and cuts. Kristen becomes terrified as she has no memory whatsoever of the night before. But no one believes her story; instead she is treated poorly by the nurses, and is given electric shocks by the hospital staff. Along with Kristen, other girls like Iris, Sarah, Emily and Zoey are kept in a special ward in the hospital, and are regularly subjected to inhuman treatment by the hospital staff and their crazy doctor, Dr. Stringer, and nurse Lundt.

All of them have been carrying out some crazy experiments on the girls. Kirsten is constantly haunted by a ghost that only she keeps seeing. The other girls in the ward do not talk about anything and are unable to help Kristen in the time of her supernatural ordeal. One day, things take a turn for the sinister, as the girls in the ward start disappearing one by one. Kristen gets terrified over her fate and starts to sense the doom just around the corner. The spine-chilling events that follow in this terrifying storyline will give you goose bumps, and make you jump out of your seats.

The Ward is just the right movie to tune-in to, if gore and thrills are what you’re looking for. The big catch is that along with all that, comes the added bonus of some terrified beautiful, nubile young girls, who play inmates at a mental asylum. Amber Heard is at the helm of an all-female cast in the role of the enigmatic Kirsten. There’s no one who is as good, and as prolific as the horror maestro John Carpenter, and I am glad to say that he doesn’t disappoint.

The movie is set in a mysterious mental asylum with wicked nurses and an evil doctor! That sets the right tone for a horror film that will keep you haunted long after the credits roll on the screen. Even though the plot of inmates getting tortured both physically and spiritually may be a trite one, what steals the show, is the spectacularly strong visuals, which will transport you to an altogether different world. A must-watch for horror junkies!
