lyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is an upright man, whose world suddenly turns upside down when his wife and daughter are brutally murdered. The killers are caught, but they hire a young Philadelphia prosecutor, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) who helps them to get away with a light sentence. This enrages Clyde to murder the killers himself and later coolly surrender to the police. But his vengeance is not over, he wants Nick to repay for the injustice he has done. He gives warning to Nick to fix the flawed judicial system or face the consequences. Soon, Clyde follows his threats and organizes a string of high profile assassinations from his jail cell itself. The entire city of Philadelphia is engulfed with fear. Nick is the only person who can stop these killings by outwitting this brilliant man.
