Little Big Soldier

Directed by Jackie Chan, Little Big Soldier traces the journey of a young general (Leehom Wang), who is kidnapped by a veteran soldier (Jackie Chan) from the enemy’s army.

The movie is set in the backdrop of China, during the period of one of the fiercest battles ever to have been fought in China, the ‘Warring States Period’. In the battle between the states of Liang and Wei, only two men manage to survive in the end. One is a soldier from Liang, who is an expert at staging death. He uses an arrow-shaped protrusion to create the illusion of being dead, and thus manages to save his life. The other man is a general from Wei, who is badly injured, and on the verge of death. The soldier sees the injured general as a perfect achievement to take back home. By showing the dead body of a man from the rival army, he shall be able to gain a handsome reward, and be discharged in honor, gaining permission to spend the rest of his life in peace. The general, despite being much younger and inexperienced than the soldier, is not the one to submit to his power. Nonetheless, the soldier drags him over the long journey to his home, and on the way, they develop an unlikely bond.

Will the soldier be able to adhere to his plan of turning the general in to the forces, or will he be too emotionally bonded to him by then, to do so? The side stories weaving into the central plot of ‘the little soldier and the big soldier’ include that of a horse and a charming young girl, played by newcomer Lin Peng. All in all, the movie offers a little bit of everything, right from thrill and intrigue, to comedy and romance!
