Reviews :

If you like to ride on the tidal waves of romance, coupled with comedy, this directorial offering of Edward Zwicks is for you. It is an insight into the emotion of love, when life is under the influence of sudden collapse and yet, love tries to find its way. Edward Zwick envisions to mish-mash the bliss of love with the aftermath of life-terrifying ailment, Parkinson’s.

In this rom-com, Jake plays Jamie Randall, who is working in Pfizer as a medical representative, selling pharmaceuticals prescriptions to doctors. His sugarcoated talks let him woo girls and thus, he embodies a Casanovian persona. According to me, his character manages to bring different hues and colors to the theme of this tableau. After having romantic trysts with females, he happens to meet a gorgeous patient, Maggie Murdock (Anna Hathaway), who is his true reflection.

This is when the storyline shifts to Drama, and Comedy rides pillion. Their adherence to open-relationships brings them close, physically. But, after some time, love gets pensive, when Maggie is diagnosed with Parkinson’s (though in its early stage). So, in a way, this phase gives way to the two of them drifting apart. For the audience, it is quite plausible that Maggie does it deliberately, in order to distance herself from Jamie. There are incidents, which explain the perfect pendulum swings of medical sorrows of Maggie and ever-increasing feelings of Jamie for her.

One really wishes to relate with the story as it goes on. They try to work-out ways to keep the relationship going, when Parkinson’s is making its presence felt overtly. Moreover, it is not the first time Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Hathaway are working together. Previously, their on-screen chemistry was thoroughly enjoyed in the Oscar-nominated ‘Brokeback Mountain’, that compounded well in another blockbuster, ‘Love and Other drugs’. Both of them are amazing in their respective roles and, the movie deals with two extreme inter-related human traits, love and sadness.

The story oscillates till the end and, cajoles the audience to feel ‘been there..done that’ moan. The USP of love in the midst of Parkinson’s is really justified in this romantic comedy/drama. One might say that few situations are fragmented, but, when viewed as a whole, the film is worth investing 112 minutes to grow with word of mouth
