‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ is a drama, directed by Bruce Beresford. The movie is based on Li Cunxin’s autobiography of the same name.
Cunxin, hailing from a poor Chinese village get the opportunity to study ballet in Beijing by the help of Madame Mao and her cultural delegates. During a cultural exchange to Texas, whole life of Cunxin takes a turn as he falls in love with an American woman. After some years, he splits from his lady love and embarks on a journey towards becoming a successful dancer. Since the movie is based on the book ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’, it encapsulates Cunxin’s journey from a sleepy Chinese village to pomp and grandeur filled city life of Texas.
