Melancholia

Melancholia is a science fiction tale and tells the story of a young woman named Justine, who not only is alienated from her family, but also suffers a huge loss when the man she was going to marry walks out of her life on the wedding day.

Moreover, as she tries to recover from her alienated life and recent blows that have hit her, she slips more into depression. Things begin to become even darker when a celestial body starts approaching towards Earth and the collision is said to destroy the living planet completely. As the planet nears earth, Claire, Justine’s sister, becomes increasingly alarmed; she starts promulgating thoughts that it’s the end of the world. Claire’s husband, who otherwise is shown as a very optimistic man, gulps down many pills and commits suicide. The movie shows the relationship of the two sisters and how it changes as the calamity gets closer. It’s a movie with multiple facets and teaches numerous things. What would Claire and Justine do now? How will they take care of the young Leo – son of Claire?

Justine has a way out! As the planet Melancholia is about to hit the Earth, Justine devises something that could save Leo, Claire and her. Is she successful?
