‘Mid Life Gangster’ is an independent feature film, based on a story from the life of Evan ‘Bullet’ James. ‘Bullet’ plays himself in the movie and does justice to the character. James is very close to his father, who is a director. After several attempts, Bullet’s father is unsuccessful at selling a new show to a television channel.
Soon after this, the father dies mysteriously and quite suddenly. The death raises doubts in the mind of the son, and that fills his heart and mind with nothing but anger. With only revenge on his mind, Bullet realigns himself with his youth days’ gangster friends and seeks their help in exacting revenge from the duplicitous Hollywood business. He believes it is the people of the showbiz that killed his father.
The movie would be a must-watch for all those who love hardcore action, with blood and bullets galore. However, the film also plays on the delicate relation shared by a father and his son.
Evan “Bullet” James stands a league apart from all the modern day wannabes, since with that rock-solid look and reverberating persona, the man is every bit irresistible! That’s why a movie made by him and more importantly, starring him, just had to make it to my collection. And how glad I am that it did! With the fact that it features the ‘Bullet’ himself in the pivotal role being reason enough to watch the movie, there was a whole added spunk that came from the gripping plot of a son devastated by his father’s death, who steps into the world of crime to avenge his father’s death.
The ironical connection between Hollywood and crime that’s portrayed in the movie, is particularly interesting to watch, especially considering that there’s been a parallel connection in the actor’s real life. The three things I loved best about the movie would be - the spot-on performance of ‘Bullet’, the sensitivity with which the father-son relationship and the aftermath of the father’s death is dealt with, and those giddily brilliant action sequences that leave you gaping in awe!
