Nowhere Boy talks about the troubled childhood and youth of legendary singer, John Lennon. During this time period, he had a problematic relationship with his aunt Mimi and mother Julia. Young John was an intelligent, but sharp-tongued boy, staying in the coastal town of Liverpool in the 1950s, with his aunt Mimi and Uncle George.

He was, actually, being brought up by his aunt, who kept scolding and bullying him. When John was just four years old, his father walked out on the family, and the boy was handed over to Mimi for rearing; even though his mother, Julia was still alive. Though, Mimi's straight-laced nature was in complete contrast to John's more irresponsible personality, they were quite affectionate about one another. Suddenly, George passes away and the household becomes a complete mess, with worries of how to manage the house becoming the order of the day. At the funeral, John meets Julia, and gets quite surprised, when he comes to know that she stays only a few blocks away from Mimi. One fine day, John visits her home and is gratefully welcomed by Julia for coming back to her life. Julia's character traits resemble to that of John, more than Mimi, and she persuades him to tend to his love for writing and music, by training him in how to play the banjo.

During the period in which he starts to learn music, rock and roll becomes the hot trend in the music world, which makes John fall in love with the bold new music. Progressing in this direction, he makes a new friend called Paul, with whom, he goes on to create something legendary. Find out more, when you catch up with Nowhere Boy.
