Passione is a work of art as it deals with music. It reveals the musical culture of Neapolitan people. Naples has a history that has been largely explained and discussed in music.

People of Naples have celebrated every occasion with songs. Every event, occasion and function has been accentuated with music. Songs have been used to discuss every social matter ranging from sexuality to social pathos to protests. John Turturro, the director, has beautifully depicted the lives and times of Neapolitan people, and how music has influenced them. Passione starts by discussing the tunes that were written in 1200. It then advances to songs of later years, and finally depicting the 21st century music. Vignettes of short, small performances depict the character and style of the music musicians dealt with in Naples, and how they evolved and changed themselves (the music too evolved and changed in the process) with the passage of time. Passione largely demonstrates the Neapolitan people, their history and love for music.

Anyone who isn’t well-versed with the Italian music or simply doesn’t know anything about the history of Naples, should consult this film called Passione. It’s a documentary but works like a beautiful poem, a song written to please every human being.
