Precious Life is a thought-provoking and deeply moving documentary about a Palestinian woman, Raida, whose thoughts on life change over a course of a few months, as she realized that contrary to her previous beliefs, ‘life is precious’!
The movie tells a story that has the power of sparking a revolution. This movie owes inspiration to Raida’s four-month old son, Mohammad Abu, who was doomed to die, being born sans an immune system. The only ray of hope for Raida, and her son is a bone marrow transplant, which would cost her a fortune. Unable to afford the expensive operation, Raida gave up on the prospect of her son’s survival. That’s when the maker, Eldar, stepped in, and put up a plea on Israeli television, urging people to come forward and aid the family. An Israeli Jew, whose son passed away in the Middle-East feud, offered to help the little boy, donating a sum of $55,000, which was enough for the operation. However, the entire story took an unexpected and shocking twist, when Raida revealed her plans for her son, to make him a suicide bomber.
This caused Eldar to quit making the documentary, and opt out of the collaboration. However, unable to get over the disturbance that was caused to him, he returned to the hospital, and began an all-new journey toward changing the thoughts of this woman. Gladly enough, after some truly remarkable moments that weave into the movie, he succeeded, and managed to make Raida realize that life is indeed precious, and there are many more ways to defend one’s country that resorting to violence!
