‘Requiem for a Dream’ is a drama, which shows how dreams, no matter big or small, cannot be realized using unethical means.
The film is an excellent portrayal of the fact that drug addiction ultimately leads to a doomed fate. The film shows this fact by taking the example of four people, namely, Harry, his mom Sara, his girlfriend Mariom and his friend Tyrone. While Harry just can't do away with his heroin addiction, Mariom and Tyrone aide him in the drug trade. Sara, who otherwise, does not have an aim to spend her life for, gets a phone call informing her about her being selected for a TV show. Aspiring to look fit, she begins taking a medicine to which, she soon gets addicted. This makes her see things, which are not at all real. At the other end, Tyrone gets taken down by the cops and Harry and Mariom spend almost all of their money to help him make his way out of prison. Also, Harry starts developing complications in his arm, as a result of using infected needles for administering drug shots. In order to procure money, he asks Mariom to enter into a physical relationship with her doctor and she gets paid for this.
When Tyrone and Harry set out to make things fine again, Harry's physical condition forces them to seek medical help, as a consequence of which, they land in prison. Harry loses his infected arm and Mariom starts working as a prostitute. This movie shows how each person often has to give up their dreams, in the face of reality.
