Sarah's Key

Sarah’s Key is about the tragic story of Sarah Starzynski and her family. During the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup in 1942 that claimed many lives of Jewish families, Sarah and her family was driven away from their home.

However, Sarah locks her brother in the cupboard of their house and keeps the key with her, in hope that she will save him soon after her family is released. In the present day, Julia Armond moved into the same apartment with her husband Bertrand. She comes across the history of this house, and realizes how her in-laws actually got hold of the house, which wasn’t by good means. Julia is a journalist and has been asked to write an article on the 1942 Vel’ d’Hiv roundup. As she gathers more information on Starzynski’s past, she finds herself getting drawn towards the lives of the family, especially Sarah, who, she gathers, happens to be the only survivor in the Starzynski’s family.

As the film progresses and several other story plots are revealed, the revelations become too engrossing to bear, too emotional to digest easily, and the feelings fragmented to piece together. Sarah’s Key, driven by the wondrous performances, grabs the mind and soul of viewers, right from the very beginning.
