Square Grouper: The Godfathers Of Ganja

The movement of drugs was not always carried with the barrel of a gun. There was a time when such things were even more organized than police department, and never demanded a drop of blood!

Square Grouper: The Godfathers of Ganja depicts the time of 1970’s, when America was high on ganja. South Florida is shown as a hub of the drug movement, with its costal advantage and closeness to Caribbean and Latin America. The movie explains what all happened in those shady times with the help of three separate tales - Black Tuna Gang and their regime under Robert Platshorn; Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church, whose air was filled with deadly smoke of ganja that even kids inhaled all day long; Everglades City, a settlement where every illegal act is committed, including drugs. The tale shows how the drug business bloomed, right under the nose of the lawmen.

The film doesn’t have much of bloodshed, an otherwise common feature in works related to drug trafficking. The scene is totally different from the 1980s, when the gangs dealing in drugs never thought twice before stacking a pile of bodies. Square Grouper: The Godfathers of Ganja shows the true picture of Florida, in the times when drug business saw a boom.
