Street Kings 2: Motor City

The action-crime film Street Kings 2: Motor City is a sequel to Street Kings.  It all started when a drug deal went wrong. Marty Kingston is an undercover narcotics team leader.

During the drug bust, he is shot, making him unable to take up any more cases. When three years later a cop is killed, the case is assigned to Dan Sullivan, a homicide detective, and Marty as his assistant. Marty understands that there is some conspiracy behind the killing and it can take away lives of others too, which is why he heads on to the task of unveiling the perilous plot and faces behind it. Although he teams up with Dan, the continuous disagreement hinders them from setting things right. But soon they are over with their disagreement, and understand the importance of working together. They set themselves on the mission to find out the murderers who are killing cops, but are faced with various shocking realities.

Their investigation shows them the bitter side of law and justice. They encounter corruption and conspiracy everywhere in the system, and it becomes difficult for them to digest everything that’s going around them. Things turn even more mysterious and unsettling when the bad guy turns out to be one of their own. Can they face the aftermath?

Calling Street Kings 2: Motor City lives up to the legacy that was established by its prequel. The reasons I watched this one were firstly, that I had absolutely relished the first movie and couldn’t wait to see what was on offer next, and secondly, the fact that I’m totally smitten by Ray Liotta.

As always, this was yet another terrific performance by the actor and he is the reason why I would go to watch the movie again. The backdrop of Detroit is apt for the movie’s action-packed plot and makes for some stunning locales that perfectly complement the plot weaving quietly in the forefront. The suspense factor keeps one on the seat’s edge throughout the movie. Let’s hope for a third movie and as we wait for that, we’ve got two awesome movies in our collections, which show exactly what a detective movie should be like!
