Terribly Happy

‘Terribly Happy’ is the story of a police constable, Robert Hansen (Jakob Cedergren), who lives by the books, and does not dare to break even a single rule.

Expectedly, he nearly loses his mind in the process, and is declared psychologically disturbed. He is asked to resign from his present position in Copenhagen, and is posted in a suburban area in the provincial Danish town of Skarrild named South Jutland, which is supposed to offer him a break from the heavy responsibilities associable with a big city’s police officer. As Robert arrives in the serene countryside, he’s eager to begin what’s more of a vacation than a job. Everything seems to be perfectly in order; the people happier than ever, and the policemen laidback in bliss. However, the delight doesn’t last long, since he soon begins to sense that this place isn’t what it seems to be. His years of experience assure him that there is something sinister going on in South Jutland. Meanwhile, he embarks on a romantic escapade as he falls in love with a lovely Danish woman. As he tries hard to balance an exciting romance and the call of duty, Robert’s mental condition only gets worse. He initially dismisses his paranoia as a case of culture shock, blaming it on the fact that he’s never lived outside the city before. However, his doubts turn into surety as he begins to see through the smiles on the faces of the residents, learning that each of them has a deep secret.
