The Adjustment Bureau

The Adjustment Bureau is a movie that can be labeled as a science fiction inclining towards the genre of romance. The plot revolves around the story of a politician David Norris (Matt Damon) who gets romantically involved with the character of a ballerina Elise played by Emily Blunt. 

Opposites always attract and this is what gives rise to strong feelings between two antithetical persons.  David is rehearsing his public speech when he meets Elise. She suggests him to remove all the cob webs from the mind and talk to the people in a straightforward manner. The trick works and David soon emerges as the most promising candidate in the 2010 elections for the US Senate. Memories of that girl still linger in David’s mind and he tries his best to find her. Meanwhile, on finding his boss Richardson (John Slattery) almost cold one day, he works out the existence of a mysterious Adjustment Bureau. This quirky organization hires individuals as ‘caseworkers’ and handles individuals like mere puppets. As per the prepared plan, David can meet Elise only once and would have to sever all relations with her thereafter. This ruthless decision baffles David, who cannot live without Elise.

Amidst this crisis, Richardson, in a bid to question the Bureau’s authority comes to the conclusion that David and Elise are inseparable. Thus a tussle ensues between David and the Bureau’s henchmen. The film takes one through a maze of doors and corridors, emblematic of the intricacies a man often creates for oneself. Love triumphs in the end, destroying the plans of the domineering organization that mars a mortal’s independence and his very thought process.
