The Birds

The Birds is a strange and implausible story of a neighborhood in South California that gets mobbed by aggressive birds. The lead protagonists of the movie are Melanie Daniels and Mitch Brenner. They meet at a pet store, where Mitch had come to buy a pair of love birds for his sister, Cathy’s birthday present.

He mistakes Melanie for the helper at the shop and places his order. Although Melanie is confused and infuriated, she decides to drive to California and deliver the birds that Mitch ordered. When she gets there, a bird vehemently pounces on her, giving her a scar on the forehead. She stays over at the house of the Brenners. Meanwhile, the bird attacks become more frequent in the neighborhood. Many people are injured by the ferocious birds and a man is even knocked unconscious, while he was filling fuel in his vehicle at a gas station. This leads to a major explosion at the gas station, when someone accidentally lights a cigar and throws it in the pool of overflowing fuel. The story takes an interesting turn when Cathy’s teacher and Mitch’s ex-girlfriend, Annie Hayworth, is found dead on her front porch.

Everyone is terrified and some old people begin to link Melanie’s arrival in the city to these untoward happenings. The bird attacks are the talk of the town. The birds break into the house where Melanie is staying, from the roof and start attacking her. She eventually has to lock herself in a room to try and protect herself. Mitch eventually saves her and takes her to the hospital, while the birds continue to watch them!
