‘The Colors of the Mountain’ is a thought-provoking and deeply moving tale, set in the picturesque locales of rural Columbia, adjacent to the country’s border with Panama.
The movie revolves around a 9-year-old boy, Manuel, who aspires to become a footballer. Manuel and his friends spend all the time that they have playing football, since the dilapidated village school has been shut down, owing to the increasing violence in the region. They are content playing with an old football, which is almost in tatters. Manuel’s father, Ernest, gifts him a new ball on his birthday, much to the delight of all the young boys. The football goes on to become the only shade of color in their dark lives, and serves as a symbol of their dream to excel at the game. They are ecstatic, and begin enjoying playing football more than ever. That is, until one fateful day, when their ball falls into a neighboring minefield, shattering their most precious dream in one go.
Even though they can see it, they do not dare to go and get it, lest their parents find out. However, the longing for the new ball is so deep, that Manuel decides to encounter the perils that lie ahead, as he embarks on the treacherous mission of entering the minefield and getting the ball. He is accompanied by his best friend Julian, who is slightly older than him, and a young bespectacled albino boy, Poca Luz, who indulges in self pity. Together, the trio experiencing an adventure of a lifetime along the way!
