The story of The Help is set up in 1960s Mississippi. The movie is based on the novel of the same name. It tells the story of how a white woman took up the challenge to help black women come and speak their heart out.
Eugenia 'Skeeter' Phelan has come back to Mississippi from her college to pursue writing. Skeeter notices the discrimination between the whites and black women. She sees the condition of black women and promises to change things by helping them tell their story. She starts with Aibileen Clark, who works as a maid in her best friend’s house. The duo is joined by Aibileen’s best friend, Minny Jackson who also agrees to share her tragic story. The women form a pack, a bond that fills other women with hope that they too can share their tales, and that there is someone listening to their tales. Although some are a little frightened, the unlikely friendship and bondage these women have developed, make them put their apprehension aside, and soon everyone is out telling her story.
This movie is about relationships that took shape amidst the unlikeliest of situations! The Help tells a heartwarming tale that seems to offer so many things and for all kinds of movie-goers.
