The Silent House

The Silent House is a horror film which is based on a real incident. It opens with a scene set in a small village in Uruguay. The story revolves around a young girl Laura, and her father, Wilson. They reside in a cottage situated far from the town.

The cottage seems to be in a poor condition and in they need to repair it as the owner of the cottage wants to sell it. Wilson and Laura decide to repair the house the next day with the first ray of light. The things go normal as it was supposed to. But, soon Laura discovers that the silent cottage is not completely silent. She begins to detect some kind of noise from the top floor of the cottage. She finds that the noise is coming from outside and soon it starts to assume ear splitting proportions. She gets frightened with the scary noise. She asks her father to go upstairs and find out the reason for the noise. In the meantime, she stays back and waits for her father to come back.

The things get weird when they fail to find the reasons for such an occurrence. Soon, they discover that something evil is in the house. They come to the conclusion that the house may hold a terrible secret within its confines. As a result, they try to escape from the house without getting hurt. Will they be able to leave the house? What is the secret of the house? Based on a true story, the movie relates the final few moments in the lives of the protagonists.

The nerve-jerking brainchild of Gustavo Hernandez, The Silent House succeeds to offer that creepy-feeling, expected from horror movies. It has won applause from the international festival circuit, with Cannes 2010 being one of its screening destinations.

Although budget constraints make it low on special-effects, the storyline has enough fear-factor to keep the viewer-interest intact. Moreover, the movie has been shot with a unique technique, to send chills down spines, with real-time sequences. Its USP is the plotline that delves into some real events that struck Uruguay of 1940s. Overall, an ideal pick to watch on your weekends.
