The Two Escobars is a gripping movie that exhibits the rarely shown, but ever prevalent relation between sports, mafia and politics. It is the story of two men sharing the same last name.
The first Escobar is the richest drug dealer of the world, and the second is the most successful soccer player in the history of Columbia. The drug kingpin’s money is used to turn the Columbian soccer team into a wonder. With this they are actually favored to win the 1994 World Cup that is slated to be held in Los Angeles. In the World Cup, fate plays demon and the ‘Star Soccer Player Escobar’ commits a folly unforgivable by the Latin masses. He sends the football crashing into the goal of his own team. This is one mistake that not only sends his team packing, but also becomes the cause behind him losing his life. It’s a movie that speaks about the power of money in the most tragic of ways as is possible.
A classic and a must watch! Directors Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist do a wonderful job, and fetch nothing but accolades and praises for their work, and likewise writers Nick Sprague, Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalis give their work a touch of class, never seen before. If something was to be said about the performances of the cast, it would not do them justice, because their work is simply unspeakably good; especially lead actors María Ester Escobar, Francisco Maturana and Alexis García V define perfection with their performances.
