Old age is inescapable. No matter, how vigorous you are in your youth, by the time you reach the grey phase of your life, the fervor turns into lethargy and sluggishness.
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives chronicles the life of one such frail man, whose lifespan has been cut short by a renal failure. While he is aware of his incurable illness, he decides to spend the handful of his days with his near and dear ones. He is a widower. But the extent of his love for his wife comes to be seen, when she appears in front of him, as an apparition! Out of her sheer love for her husband, the dead wife takes care of her ill husband; other family members are oblivious about this fact. Furthermore, Uncle Boonmee even sees his son coming back home, but not in a tangible human form. All such occurrences make the movie look like some supernatural cinematic piece, toiled with umpteen amounts of hard-work and uniqueness.
The most engaging part of the tableau comes into picture, when the oldie decides to go trekking with his family. During his journey, he accidentally comes about an uncanny place, which is identified by him as the birthplace of his previous life. So, is it a case of reincarnation? Does such a phenomenon really exist? The film zeros in on the subject of recalling one’s past life, making the theme highly intriguing.
