USS Franklin: Honor Restored tells the story of an aircraft carrier that was majorly used for active service during World War II.
It’s a story not only of the ship, but also of its crew. Known as “The Ship That Wouldn’t Die”, it was a carrier that survived a hit by a Japanese armor-piercing bomb in 1945. It was an attack meant to do heavy destruction, as it made the carrier lose nearly 700 of its crew members. Becoming the most heavily damaged US Carrier to survive, it even managed to return to its home country! Though the attack of 1945 made most of the people in that carrier, lose their lives, for the people who managed to survive, it served as a complete life changer. Challenging, discomforting, upsetting, but nonetheless, motivating are the words that describe this movie to the tee. The director undertook an uphill task when he decided to make this movie, but his efforts have worked well.
Though not a ‘happy go lucky’ type, this movie emerges as a winner from all the angles. It achieves what it seeks to do and gives every viewer an experience of being a mariner. It spells why it was an honor to spend some time at the carrier that was America’s pride in the Second World War!
