Waiting For 'Superman'

Waiting For ‘Superman’ is a film which has been made, to bring to light the shortcomings of the education system in the United States of America.

The title has been inspired from the experiences recalled by Geoffrey Canada, in which, he tells the world, how he got the biggest shock of his life as a kid, when his mother told him that Superman does not exist in real life. Canada had always thought that if the world ever falls into a situation where immediate help is required, there’s Superman to cater to it all. The film takes the example of five students, namely Anthony, Fiasco, Bianca, Daisy and Emily and shows how all of them face problems dealing with the stubborn system that compels them to get into the charter schools, or at least aspire to do so, by any means. Waiting For ‘Superman’ shows these students, trying their luck at a draw, in which the winners will get the chance to get enrolled with these charter schools. In the name of public education, they are put through such teaching methods that do not encourage the growth of their minds.

They are simply unable to nurture feelings that give rise to innovations, as these are thwarted. They are unable to develop their learning skills and make use of them to their fullest ability. In addition to this, these students are taught to adhere to the norms imposed on them, even when they are well aware of the fact that these restrictions will only work negatively for them.
