The prospect of finding someone who’s related to you, after years of unawareness about each other’s existence, never fails to be intriguing. We are Family showcases the extraordinary emotions that accompany the realization of this prospect, in not just one, but six different individuals.
It all begins with a mysterious invitation being sent out to six strangers, inviting them to a house that they know nothing about. As they arrive there, they have no idea who’s called them. The worst part is none of them even knows each other. They’re all apprehensive about their alienation towards one another, and are shrouded in the mystery of what the invitation is all about. As the events of the movie unfold, they are confronted with what’s sure to be the most shocking realization of their lives- the fact that they are siblings! This comes forward as they receive the will of their deceased father, whom none of them knew personally. Their father has been perfectly fair, in dividing his property equally amongst the six of them. But, there is a condition which they’ll have to fulfill before they can carry out the division. They have to spend 24 hours together!
The movie makes us look deep into the relationships that we tend to take for granted. It makes us realize that no matter how close one may be, the separation that’s caused by time and space can never be made up for. But on the flipside, the fact that blood is thicker than water, can also not be overlooked. So, will these siblings ultimately be able to associate with each other as brothers and sisters? Or, will they walk out of the house after an entire day of togetherness because of being unable to come to terms with their newly discovered bond?
