We Go Way Back, is a movie about a young and ambitious actress, who believes that her life might have hit the right track; in reality, however, it stands nowhere close to the one she desired. Kate is working hard to become an actress.
She is a part-timer at a small theatre company and also has a day job. On her 23rd birthday, she receives her first role, which is a lead role in Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. She also comes across a letter that she herself had written at the age of 13. And soon, before she can even stop to celebrate the offer that she has just received, Kate slips into the memories of her image as a 13-year-old girl. The 13-year-old Kate was precocious, confident and knew what she had to do – she was everything that the adult Kate isn’t. The dilemma she slips into makes her question herself, whether she is really happy with her life or not. Soon, the image of her younger self appears in bone and flesh, and the voice that seemed to haunt her is out now, confronting her face-to-face.
Obviously it’s a specter, one that has given rise to itself because the new Kate can’t seem to keep her off her mind; obviously it won’t harm her. But can she stand up to her own self? Is it possible for a person to stand up to the questions put by her own image, and then come up with an answer? One has to go way back to find answers!
