‘When Soldiers Cry’ is an emotionally trenchant tale of an American soldier, David M. Church, stuck in Vietnam during the Vietnamese war.
He wakes up one morning to find all of his troop dead around him, and being the sole survivor, he is faced with the daunting task of finding his way back home in solitude. He would rather die, but the only thing that keeps him going is the promise of his return that he made to his family back home before leaving for the war. With each step threatening to bring him closer to death, he feels lost and terrified in the foreign land, as he spans his way through a jungle. On his way, he encounters an injured Vietnamese soldier, whose sight fills him with contempt and vengeance. He shoots him in his arm as a comeuppance for the killing of all his friends by his allies. However, he soon realizes that he’s made what is probably the biggest blunder of his life, since the man was not a Viet Corp, but was indeed an American Tunnel Rat. David shudders in self-hatred and unforgivable guilt as he carries the nearly-dead soldier along with him towards the Landing Zone. He meets a few more injured American soldiers on the way, and takes it as his responsibility to do his best to bring each of them to safety.
He puts his life into danger as he becomes obsessed with saving the lives around him, and as he finally meets his inevitable fate, he wells up with tears, in the defining moment of the movie, for not being able to live up to his promise. Watch this movie to be a part of this unforgettable tale! Like most war movies, this one too will leave you in tears, as you salute the spirit of the thousands of soldiers who sacrifice their lives each day, all to keep us safe.
